What is melanin?

Melanin cells are the skin natural coloration pigments. These are produce from the skin special cells melanocytes. It is a substance that produce pigments cells in three colors yellow, black and brownish. Melanin cells while producing pigment cells gives skin its natural coloration. Infect it not only gives skin its natural coloration but also gives color to the iris of the eye, skin features and scales etc.

The amount of melanin cells in human skin is varies from person to person. The person who has darker color have more melanin cells in its skin and the person who have fair skin coloration is consisting on less melanin cells.

The melanin cells are also known as a chemical substance that are created or formed during the chemical process of metabolizing an amino acid known as ‘tyrosine’. The presence of melanin cells in the skin gives a lot of advantage. It not only detects skin natural coloration but also protects skin from the sun ultraviolet rays that destroys the skin cells and tissues and leaves them dehydrated and dull. Melanin cells protect human skin from the harmful sun ultra violet rays by acting as a natural shield.

In the case of albinism human body lacks melanin cells. During the albinism the normal amount of pigmentary substances are lesser in body. Not only is the human body suffering from the albinism but most of the time it is also observed that animals and plants are also suffering from it.
